Transnational Islam and Challenges of Being Muslim Ummah
6th International ILEM Summer School which was held in Istanbul between 29 July-04 August 2019, with the theme of “Transnational Islam and Challenges of Being Muslim Ummah” brought together more than 60 academics from 25 different countries.
International ILEM Summer School program hosted many academicians from various regions of the world, researchers shared ideas about Transnational Islam and Muslim Ummah from different disciplines and perspectives.
The program organized by the Scientific Studies Association (ILEM) and supported by Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Istanbul 29 Mayıs University, Mavera Education and Health Foundation, and Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF).
The keynote conference of the IISS 6 started with Prof. Dr. Cemil Aydın under the headline of “A Global History of Muslim Internationalism”. The program continued with the panels, lectures, talks, workshops. Ovamir Anjum, Juliane Hammer, İsmail Yaylacı, and Abdullah al-Ahsan took part in IISS 6 as a lecturer. İsmail Kara, Heba Raouf Ezzat, Bilal Kuşpınar, Mesut Idriz, Dzenita Karic, and Nurullah Ardıç took part in summer school as a talker. İhsan Fazlıoğlu, Selim Argun, Muhammed Haron, Sümeyye Parıldar, Naoki Qayyim Yamamato, and Hassan Imran took part in program as a panelist.
During the summer school, 9 different workshops were also held and the participants shared their works with each other.
Throughout the 6th IISS social activities took place too and participants were able to pay close attention to the cultural heritage of Istanbul during the Bosphorus tours. The program ended with the closing and certificate ceremony on 04 August, Sunday.
